Eighth win and the title for Borrego

26 outubro 2019

Roberto Borrego made quite clear what his goal was at the start of the Baja Portalegre 500. Second in the championship on Thursday, the home rider knew a victory would grant him the title, and that’s precisely what happened in a race in which he was never under pressure.

This was Borrego’s eighth win at the Baja Portalegre 500, his fifth back-to-back victory, an impressive track for the now fifth time overall Quad champion.

Ruben Alexandre was second, also at handlebar of a Yamaha YFZ 450, and the only the managed to run close to Borrego’s pace, despite losing 3:13.1s to Borrego in the end.

The last place of the podium ended up in André Cabrita’s hands, but more than 13 minutes adrift from P1. Behind the Suzuki LTR rider, in fourth, finished Filipe Silva and Arnaldo Martins, both also in a Suzuki LTR.

Luís Engeitado, championship leader on Thursday, had a hard race. Never fighting for victory, he was fourth on the Prologue and fifth on SS2, he ended up withdrawing after a crash.

However, the title was only awarded after taking into consideration Borrego’s five victories in this year’s championship since he and Engeitado both ended the season with 125 points.
