Xavier Albino was the winner of the eight edition of the Mini Baja, a competition organised by the Automóvel Club de Portugal to promote young riders.
This year’s edition was a truly international one with the participation of a young Czech girl, Nelly Cisová, amongst a total of 14 entries.
With two stages, the youngsters started with the optional Prologue’s 5.32 km, just like all the other competitors, and then faced, this Saturday, another 70 km against the clock.
Alexandre Abreu Bastos (Yamaha YFM 250R) set the pace on Friday morning, ending the stage with a 19.1 seconds advantage over Vasco Figueiredo Severino, while Rodrigo Alves was third, 19.3 seconds from the top.
On SS2, this Saturday morning, the story was a different one. Xavier Albino imposed himself and left his rivals quite far. Martinho Rovisco Pais, the second fastest, ended 2:06s adrift, while Vasco Figueiredo Severino rounded up the top 3, three minutes from the winner of the Mini Baja’s 8th edition. The Czech youngster ended sixth overall.
