Sebastian Buhler ensured his first victory at the Baja Portalegre 500, a special result after his crash last year which made for a long recovery. Meanwhile, António Maio’s fourth place was more than enough for the rider to sign his fourth consecutive title.
With extra motivation after his win the previous round of the championship, Buhler was always amongst the fastest riders. After finishing second to Luís Oliveira in the Prologue, he was second once again on SS2.
However, the WR450F rider found himself in the first spot overall after several penalisations attribute during Friday night. After that he rode a great race, and ended the Baja with almost 13 minutes advantage over Bruno Santos, while Martin Ventura rounded off the podium, almost 15 minutes from the winner.
Roberto Borrego rewrites the history books
In the Quads Roberto Borrego made history. Racing at home, the rider won the Baja Portalegre for the seventh time. An all-time record in any of the categories which make the Baja Portalegre. Behind him, almost 10 minutes away, Jacinto Lourenço was second, with Pedro Silva in third.
SSV victory for Pereira and Adão, and title for Monteiro and Pereira
The SSV, a category which had almost 100 participants, was won by Marco Pereira and Eurico Adão, but with only 33,3 seconds advantage for the second placed Vítor Santos and Gregório Pereira. Dirk Von Zitzewitz was third, codrived by Stéphane Peterhansel’s wife, Andrea Peterhansel.
João Monteiro and Manuel Pereira were fifth overall, a good enough result to ensure the National Championship title.
