In what looks like a race apart, Ruben Alexandre is dominating the Quads class in the Baja Portalegre 500 and has, after the first day of the race, almost four minutes advantage for the second classified, Fábio Fernandes Ferreira. First in SS1, Oscar Romero was unable to stay ahead, and, after SS 2, he occupies the third absolute position.
The young Yamaha YFZ 450R rider had already shown, in previous editions, that he had the potential to go fast. In 2020, he is not only doing so, but he guarantees a consistency that the competition has difficulties to keep up with. That is why, even with the intense rain Ruben Alexandre is ahead of the classification with 3m53.5s of advantage over the runner-up, Fábio Ferreira.
“The first stage went well. There was a lot of water. The bikes started to fail with water in the air filter but I managed to bring the Quad to the end in good condition. The advantage is good and tomorrow I will roll more slowly. The sector is very long and the objective is to reach the end in the best possible place,” explained Ruben Alexandre.
Oscar Romero crossed the border between Spain and Portugal to participate in the TT queen event. The way he entered the competition was impressive because he set the best time in the number one selective sector. However, the KTM 450 driver experienced difficulties in SS2 and lost control of the race. At this moment he is third to more than 5m30s of the leader.
The second stage takes place during the day of tomorrow and the pilots will compete in a selective sector, only, but that is more than 300 kilometers long.
